Benjamin Hubert has created a concept for a wearable and app to track carbon usage: a project to respond to one of the biggest challenges facing humanity.

Design and ceramics renew a shopping center

FMG Fabbrica Marmi and architect Paolo Gianfrancesco, of THG Arkitektar Studio, have designed the restyling of the third floor of Reykjavik's largest shopping center. Ceramic, the central element of the project, covers floors, walls and furniture with versatile solutions and distinctive character.

Every action we take – from the food we eat and the clothes we wear to the way we travel – has a carbon footprint.

WorldBeing, designed by Benjamin Hubert with his design agency Layer, has the potential to track each of these decisions and create a map of an individual’s carbon usage. Users will be able to better understand the impact of their way of life and to make informed decisions for the wellbeing of the world.

As a wearable, WorldBeing is a conversation starter and a call to action. It is a way to visibly demonstrate your values to the world, and be a part of a movement for change.

It provides constant awareness of carbon usage throughout the day, and notification of accomplishments, rewards, and community engagement. The device is also connected to the user’s real-time account on the app and can be used to make contactless payments. The data collected from these payments would then be used to calculate carbon usage.

WorldBeing is also a community of likeminded users who want to change the world. Users can create communities and set reduction targets, see how their carbon footprint compares with friends, share accomplishments, create challenges and invite others to take part. Results of challenges can be shared via social media channels, inspiring active engagement and the involvement of the wider community.

From September, the project is in a Crowdshouting campaign with Thunderclap.
