Tastemaker

Designed by Renée Boute and Lisanne van Zanten, Tastemaker is a cutlery set that includes a spoon and a fork that will make you experience sweet or salty flavors more intense.

The color, the material and the size of the cutlery are the outcome of research about influence and manipulation of flavor.
It appears that a light, small and blue cutlery accentuates an extra salty flavor. Meanwhile the heavier, longer and white cutlery accentuates the sweetness of your food. Manipulation of food is, beside this cutlery, a daily thing. Just look in supermarkets, there you’ll also find translations of these research outcomes. Think of the appearance and packaging of food.

The cutlery, that is deliberately made of the more vulnerable porcelain in order to make you more aware of every bite. It was introduced during the Experimental Gastronomy events at the Lloyd Hotel in Amsterdam. During these evenings, the guests got introduced to vegan food from Holland in an innovative approach. The cutlery, made by Renée Boute and Lisanne van Zanten, was an outcome of this innovating approach.

Besides the ‘normal’ cutlery, there is a limited edition, made of gold and platinum. Gold stimulates sweetness even more. Hence it is also used by professional ice tasters to taste different flavors of ice cream. Platinum enhances the salty taste.
