Patricia Urquiola / 52

The Spanish designer has created two new seats that bring a touch of irony and levity to this Barcelona brand’s collection.

After channelling much time and energy into developing Jasper Morrison’s well-constructed and technically complex outdoor Village collection, Kettal asked Urquiola to study two new lines with markedly more “Latin” traits.

Roll is a tongue-in-cheek reading of the traditional upholstered armchair in which the padded back is created by two cushions, held together by a ribbon in a strongly contrasting colour. These are blocked at the top by pins that open easily to release the cushions from the aluminium structure for use elsewhere, as needed.

Mesh is a collection of outdoor sofas centred on the contrast between industrial and natural materials, and rigid and soft surfaces. The slender metal structure can support wood and marble shelves as well as cushions.
