Best of 2013 #design

From an interactive exhibit presenting the invisible fabric of the Internet as embodied in the world to independent and self-produced design conveyed in Turin, here are this year’s best design stories.

In 2013, we visited “Design Ah!”, an exhibition at Tokyo 21_21 Design Sight that restated the miracle of the everyday through a basic ludic perspective, and “Chrome Web Lab”, an interactive exhibit at the London Science Museum, presenting the invisible fabric of the Internet as embodied in the world. During the 2013 edition of Milan’s Salone del Mobile, we surveyed the week’s highlights with an extended coverage that included videos, interviews and photo-essays.

This year, we examined the Little Printer, product of over five years of applied research and development at London-based firm BERG, and a good exemple of how physical and digital have merged to become one. We visited the Vienna and the Beijing Design Week, the London Design Festival, and the eight Experimentadesign Biennale directed by Guta Moura Guedes, highlighting the most interesting projects. Finally, in London, Design Museum’s exhibition “The future is here” shed light on the transformations of the “third industrial revolution”, in Paris Nina Yashar’s genius and raw instinct for top-level design transformed 15 rooms of the historical Hôtel de Miramion, and in Turin Operae, welcomed for the fourth year independent and self-produced design.

Below are our best design stories from 2013.
