On the occasion of IMM Cologne 2013, French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have presented the Ready Made Curtain, a simple, DIY hanging system for Kvadrat, intended to suit every window.
The Ready Made Curtain is Kvadrat's first "direct to consumer" product, and follows comprehensive research conducted by the brand alongside innovation and strategy consultancy firm ReD Associates. Based on their findings, the Bouroullec brothers then created this curtain system, which allows consumers to introduce high quality curtains to their home.
Requiring the participation of the owner in its making, everything needed to fix the Ready Made Curtain is provided with the system: a hanging cord, wall fixings, pegs, and a selection of Kvadrat textiles. The designers sought to refine the hanging system until only the absolute minimum material and skill were achieved.
"The starting point was a picture in a Japanese book from the fifties. The book was a catalogue of objects and in it was a guitar. From there, we began to explore the system of string tension in guitars," state Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec.

"The ambition was to create a new system that allows anyone to install a quality curtain in record time," the designers point out. "Little skill and few tools are needed, margin for error has been considered and perfection isn't an absolute requirement. In fact, the charm of the imperfect in opposition to the overly sanitized interior, is something we believe in."
