Belgian designer Sylvain Willenz will present at the Salone del Mobile 2012 a new table for Italian manufacturer Cappellini, part of the Candy Collection. With this steel table, the designer seeks to explore the potential of steel reinforcement bars, normally used within concrete structures. The common steel bar gets an industrial paint coating with high gloss paint, giving off a multitude of highly bright reflections. These, according to Cappellini, offer a "new and seducing identity" to what would have otherwise been an ordinary material.

"I wanted to play with the idea that something you would normally see as an inappropriate or unattractive material for making furniture," says designer Sylvain Willenz, "which could become very chic when shifted to another context and looked at from a different angle".

According to Cappellini, "Candy Table is the result of exploring the beauty and simplicity of ready-available construction materials to make pieces of furniture; such a commonly known bar could, by means of a simple design and an industrial intervention, become a beautiful and classic piece of furniture. Surprisingly, the purely functional texture on the bar becomes a decorative element once painted."

The Candy Table is available in two different formats: square (40x40x40 cm), round (45x40 cm), and in five colours (blue, green, white red and black).
