The intimate microcosm of a couple of architects

In Rosario, Argentina, architects Ezequiel Manasserí and María Sol Depetris designed their bedroom: a secret room in a period apartment served by a blue staircase.

The bedroom designed by the couple Manasserí Depetris corresponds to the first stage of the renovation of an early 20th century French style apartment in Rosario, Argentina. The project was selected in the 2019 São Paulo biennial in the "Daily Stories" category.

A metallic blue staircase wraps like a ribbon between the lower level of the house and the upper level of the bedroom. The wraparound shell encapsulates the staircase ensuring a close connection between the two floors, revealing itself on the cold gallery of the period apartment. Its shiny, glittery texture contrasts with the vintage tiled floor on the lower floor and the warm colour of the wood in the bedroom.

In the room, the bathroom lets the light shine through; a translucent double door marks the threshold, while a silver glittery curtain ensures privacy.

Material and style counterpoints become the leitmotif of the project; smooth and coloured surfaces contrast with the white of the unrefined walls, just as the pre-existing antique flavour location is contaminated by an industrial language due to the choice of materials and the visible plant system. The result is a space of informal and joyful intimacy.
