Nine days (from 18 to 26 April) of installations, projects, encounters and workshops with a single theme, urban design. The first “Public Design Festival” has been organised by the group Esterni for the Furniture Fair. One of the questions raised by the most anti-conventional group at the Salone asks how Piazza XXIV Maggio, one of the most chaotic piazzas in the city, can be transformed into a welcoming and useful place. Guests, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut in Milan, include Winfried Baumann who will present five designs for Instant Housing, instant solutions to the needs of urban living. As well as the Casa dei Designer and bedsharing offering accommodation for young designers passing through Milan, for Esterni the Fair is also a chance to present the results of the “duepercinque” competition, a project that takes a fresh look at city parking.
