The first, at the Kunstgewerbe Museum in Berlin, is entitled “Contemporary Italian Jewellery: techniques and materials from art to design”. It is an exhibition about “jewellery whose value lies in its design”, as curator Alba Cappellieri explains. Traditional techniques and materials from various parts of Italy have been reinterpreted (such as the coral of Torre del Greco and Sciacca, Sardinian and Ligurian filigree, or Venetian and Florentine minute mosaic work). The 150 artists, designers, jewellery designers and companies involved thus demonstrate that the old skills can be given a contemporary look. The exhibition continues at the Museo delle Arti Decorative di Torino Fondazione Accorsi and then at the Tel Aviv Art Museum. The second exhibition, “From Hand to Hand” (at MUDAC, the design museum in Lausanne), explores the relationship between pupils and masters, attempting to examine the legacy of contemporary jewellery in Europe through 58 pieces by three generations, trained in the schools of various countries.
