Emptying the Museum is a public installation by the art collective Luzinterruptus on the facade of the Museum Drachter in the Netherlands. Four large light elements descend from the wondows of the cultural institution into rubbish bins. The pipes resemble those used for dumping rubble on construction sites. The artists replace plastic with coloured fabrics with different ornamental motifs. The urban lamps take the art of the museum outside and become elements of attraction. The artists say: “This piece was meant to ‘ornamentally’ recreate the need many a prestigious museum has to make room for novel artistic proposals that better respond to the interest of their visitors.”
