LaLa Land Parody Paradise

An enormous bouquet of flowers installed on the roof draws attention to the new exhibition at the Haus der Kunst. Inside the German gallery, American artist Paul McCarthy shows two new installations: Pirate Project and Western Project. Cowboys and pirates, ships and a giant wedding cake fill the galleries, the overall effect being to transform it into a giant entertainment park, a grotesque parody of paradise.

Visitors are invited to look around, while videos, sculptures and drawings (up to four metres high) illustrate McCarthy’s visions and describe the evolution of the project, which arose from a conversation that the artist had with his son Damon. E.S.
