Alzek Misheff at PAC: concert for violin, piano and cellphones

The passage of time and one’s perception of it is the theme behind the work of Christian Boltanski (showing at PAC in Milan until 12 June). This single theme of time is represented through installations, videos and photographs ranging from the succession of the dates of birth and death of the artist’s relatives insribed on a large white wall to the video Entre temps that consists of a sequence of photographs of Boltanski’s face taken at various points of his life.

The exhibition, intimate and conceptual, has been combined with an interesting programme of events that bring together art and contemporary music. On May 11 an experimental session with Alzek Misheff and Eugene Sarbu consisting of a concert where the notes of an authentic Stradivari violin (played by Sarbu) and Disklavier piano (a special pianola where the old hydraulic system is substituted with electric commands controlled from a distance by an infra red baton) will be recorded and then reproduced by a quartet of cellphones (that Misheff defines “the carillon of the twenty-first century”). A highly avant-garde performance where pieces by J. S. Bach and Niccolò Paganini encounter the latest technology. E.S.
