A new Pop strain animates the latest series of paintings by American artist Jeff Koons for the Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin with subjects such as food, fashion and entertainment. “Easyfun-Ethereal” is the title-definition for the seven large paintings which depict smiling sandwiches, enormous lips, spiral streets which climb the coast, hair tousled by the wind, all elements which are silhouetted against sublime landscapes. Familiar images dissociated amongst each other which create a kind of collage which is reproduced with photographic perfection. Koons has worked in this case with computer reproductions of personal images or pictures taken from various media.

A Pop production that recalls surrealism and abstract expressionism and which attempts to involve the viewer, as Koons himself explains “"I've worked with things that are sometimes labelled as kitsch; but I've never had an interest in kitsch per se. I always try to give viewers self-confidence. For me, my work is about the viewer more than anything else”.
