The exhibition is made up of thirty sculptures, which have fooled many a visitor as they seem so lifelike, which relate the flipside of the American dream; a couple hurriedly eat a meal in a bar, a cleaner nicknamed “Queenie”, the caretaker of a museum, a girl sunbathing, housewives, workers. He has always been interested in narrating resignation, the void and the solitude of the lower middle class Americans, but the turnaround came in 1953 when Hanson discovered resin and polyester and began creating the “life sculptures”, the result of a fanatical process.
The artist usually photographed his subjects whilst they were at work, or relaxing for a moment. He then invited them to his studio where he would make a cast to then reproduce them in the exact position of that moment, studying all the details from the light to the psychological aspect also suggested by the clothing. In search of that realistic effect which goes beyond reality itself.
