Architecture studio DOGA completed a small atelier-house located along the Tokaido Road in Ninomiya-cho, in Japan. 8.5 House hosts a painter and his family. The building is strongly featured by a sloping roof giving the house a sculptural form: only an angle of this pointy shape is cut to reveal a glazed access, preceded by a small terrace. The starting point of the project is a large, diagonal exhibition wall occupying the maximum length of the site and serving as a display of art works open to the street. Located between the living area and the atelier at the entrance, the exhibition wall, together with the steep sloping roof, generates a play of wide and narrow, high and low spaces and angles. Rooms are located on the ground floor, right next to an angular and white-tiled bathroom, while living room and kitchen are placed on the first floor.
