House viewing mountains

Kawashima Mayumi Architect Design created in Kobuchizawa, Japan, a weekend house looking at the mountains, designed drawing a line form the centre of the house toward the mountains.

Kobuchizawa is a town of Yatsugatake-Nanroku that has a gentle slope toward the south to the vertex Yatsugatake towering mountain range to the north.
The client desired a weekend house, surrounded by the red pine grove, with a view towards the mountains.
Since not urban, there were almost no external factors adjacent determining the design, so the architects could decide the form by a request from the inside.

Therefore, it was decided to draw a line toward the mountains from the room in the center and take the outer wall line to perpendicular to it.
In the harsh winter, the family will gather in the “Winter living room” surrounding the fireplace, while in the wind blowing summer, they can spend time in the “Summer living room”, the terrace with its semi-external space.
