Hideo Horikawa: Nousfit Warehouse

Using a series of wooden pillars in an apparently unstructured manner, the Japanese architecture studio creates a striking, iconic warehouse and workshop in the heart of Tokyo.

Japanese architecture studio Hideo Horikawa Architect + Associates have recently completed a workshop and warehouse for a salon product supply company, in the Itabashi quarter of Tokyo. Distributed over two floors, the warehouse is located on the top floor, maximising the storage area, while the ground floor harbours the workshop.
"Incorporating a concept that robustly expressed the client company into this building was an important theme," states Horikaw, pointing out how the building figuratively evokes, through a series of wooden pillars, the idea of hair. A portion of each pillar penetrates the roof, supporting the roof or shelving.
