Temporary architecture for new music

New spaces for today’s music. With this slogan the competition “Ohrenstrand Mobil 08” called together architects, engineers and artists last May.

Organised by Zeitgenössischen Oper Berlin and ohrenstrand.net the competition had the aim of creating unconventional and temporary spaces dedicated to music.

The winning schemes are on show at the Aedes am Pfefferberg Gallery in Berlin (until 5 March). The winners, from Nuremberg-based studio Eyland 07 (René Rissland and Jurgen Lahmeier), proposed a flexible piece of architecture to be assembled according to a series of acoustic modules that absorb, diffuse and reflect sound. Built at full scale, on 13 February they will be tested inside the gallery with the performance Layers News Opera. Robert Schwarz and Mark Neuner (Divany), from Vienna, winners of the second prize, have designed a suspended construction made from elements in polystyrene. Third place went to another original idea, the HoveringSonicCap, a roof filled with helium developed by Berlin group AG J.-P. E. R. Sonntag and CC.Mehlhose + Thomas Reinke. E. S.
The recipients of the 2nd Prize (1500 €) were Robert Schwarz and Mark Neuner of Divany (Vienna), with their “Raumadapter” (Space Adapter)
