One hundred and twenty years after
his birth, Charles-Edouard Jeanneret,
alias Le Corbusier is being celebrated at
the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo.
The father
of modernism and eclectic all-round
artist (town planner, painter, theorist,
sculptor and designer) is remembered
until September 24 in a rich collection of
works including coloured paintings and a
reconstruction of the Cabanon at Cap
San Martin, the minimalist refuge on the
Côte d’Azur where Corbu often spent his
holidays. In the Japanese capital the
Swiss architect designed the National
Museum of Western Art (with Kunio
Maekawa, Junzo Sakakura and
Takamasa Yoshizaka) and has had a
great deal of influence on architects
across the ocean (from Kenzo Tange to
Tadao Ando).
