Absolute Community: the finalists

The brief for this international competition, promoted by a private developer and open to any interested designers, was to design a residential tower block, the fourth in the Absolute Community, situated next to an important intersection in the city of Mississauga.

The brief for this international competition, promoted by a private developer and open to any interested designers, was to design a residential tower block, the fourth in the Absolute Community, situated next to an important intersection in the city of Mississauga.

During the first phase, the ideas competition, 92 professional practices took part from 70 different countries. The jury – made up of Ed Sajecki, Larry Beasley, Colin Fournier, Michael D. Spaziani, Sol Wassermuhl, Claude Lacombe, Danny Salvatore, Paulo Stellato and Sam Crignano, with the practice Office for Urbanism (Toronto) as Competition Manager – selected six finalists, from which one winning project will be chosen in the spring of 2006, with the another seven projects receiving an honourable mention. The shortlisted projects are illustrated on this and preceding pages.
