His work – a selection of 21 projects that cover a forty year long career – forms the centre of an exhibition conceived and realised by Uqam in Montreal (Université du Québec à Montréal) together with the Belgian organisation Civa (Centre International pour le Ville, l’Architecture et le Paysage). The exhibition, that opens today in Brussels, takes the visitor through the career of one of the masters of contemporary architecture, from the first buildings such as the swimming pool de las Mareas a Leça da Palmeira (1961-66), to the Galician Museum of Contemporary Art in Spain, the country where Siza has carried out the most projects, including the recent and controversial extension to the Prado.
The journey concludes with one of his most poetic Portuguese projects, the church of Santa Maria in the Douro valley. E.S.
