Cincinnati, opening of Zaha Hadid’s museum

Eight different levels of galleries connected to each other in anything but a linear fashion to form a slim tower. At street level a base which is entirely glazed (defined as the “Urban Carpet) on the corner of East Sixth and Walnut Street. This is what the public will encounter at the end of next May with the Lois & Richard Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati, designed by Zaha Hadid.

Saturday 31 is the official opening day for the 35 million dollar project, begun in 2001 and which offers the city 2200 square metres of exhibition space. Hadid won the competition in 1998, after which the career of the Anglo-Iraqi architect took a leap forward, after Cincinnati receiving commissions for the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Rome, the Price Tower Art Center in Oklahoma, a terminal for ferries in Salerno, the BMW center in Leipzig and the masterplan for the city of Singapore.
