Described by the local press as “one of the most emblematic buildings of modern Barcelona”, the new look for the Barcelona trade fair has been designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito. Winner of an international competition set in 2000, in which Dominique Perrault, Norman Foster, Abalos y Herreros, Arets Architects and Clorindo Testa also took part.

Ito will be responsible for the extension of the Pedrosa fair (Montjuic 2) which will consist of two pavilions, two entrances and an auditorium. It will cover a total of 112 thousand square metres which added to the 240 thousand already existing will make the Catalan trade fair the second largest in Europe, after Milan. Building work is set to be completed by 2007.
