Museo Patio Herreriano opens in Valladolid

The latest act in the frenzied process of producing spaces for contemporary art is the recent opening of the Museum of Spanish Contemporary Art Patio Herreriano in Valladolid. Built on the “ashes” of the ancient San Benito monastery and designed by Juan de Rivera Rada, the museum brings together on a floor area of 7000 square metres, the best of Spanish art from the last century: from the avant-garde of the pre-bellico period right up to the recent generations.

The building includes spaces dedicated to temporary exhibitions as well as areas for consultation – libraries, meeting rooms – and offers itself on the same wavelength as other centres of contemporary art such as Reina Sofía in Madrid, the IVAM in Valencia, the MACBA in Barcelona and the Guggenheim in Bilbao.
