A revolution in habits: design for Gen-Z

Aesthetic transformation, postural transformation and transformation of the environmental context: Luxy rethinks the office world with a series of new furnishings.

Generational changes shape not only habits and customs but also the way we construct, organise and perceive associated living spaces. Soon, men and women born between the mid-1990s and 2010, the members of Generation Z (or Gen-Z), will overtake the Millennials as the most populous generation on Earth, with more than a third of the world's population. This generation has, according to all surveys, a completely new perspective on how to define success in life and, first and foremost, on careers. Fundamental for them are elements such as work-life balance, flexible working hours and the possibility to work remotely and connection to the corporate mission and culture.

Inevitably, the redesign of workspaces will play a key role in the decision-making choices of this generation. Professional environments that offer flexibility in terms of both time and physical space will be needed. Offices will have to accommodate different activities: concentrated work, collaboration, informal meetings and relaxation. There will also need to be ample scope for customisation, be it in terms of ergonomic adjustments and lighting options, or aesthetic choices. Last but not least, sustainability, a key value for Gen-Z: offices should make extensive use of recycled materials, energy-efficient systems and offer large green areas, even indoors.

Designed by Luigi Vittorio Cittadini, Cluster is an armchair that can be modelled according to individual needs

Luxy addresses this revolution in habits and spaces through three main aspects: aesthetic transformation, postural transformation and transformation of the environmental context. The first implies that the office makes us feel as comfortable as possible in an environment with an aesthetic similar to the residential one. The Clop chair designed by Il Prisma studio goes precisely in this direction. A chair capable of adapting to multiple positions and modes of use, for situations of haste, flying meetings but also for concentration and brainstorming activities. An eclecticism, both in style and use, that also lends itself to the new coworking and start-up contexts.

Cluster, the seat designed by Luigi Vittorio Cittadini and modelled according to needs, thanks to customisable geometric elements, was also created to adapt to everyone's needs and tastes. The second transformation - the postural one - requires a seat that promotes a correct anatomical position and at the same time adapts to versatile use, from spontaneous movements during conversations to long periods of concentration, passing through phases of relaxation or collaboration. This is why Italia, with its minimalist, enveloping design by Favaretto & Partners, is ideal for essential and sophisticated work environments. It is available in three versions and in a wide range of colours and materials.

The third transformation, that of the environmental context, panders to the openspace trend, a solution where privacy and silence risk being sacrificed. The office chair thus becomes an element of a broader acoustic and visual solution that helps create micro-environments of tranquillity and concentration within shared spaces. It is precisely with this in mind - which is the Latin otium, or intellectual activity for its own sake - that Sea Shell was born, the collection of soft seats that evoke a shell in which to find calm and serenity. The aesthetic and tactile choices of the pieces stem from an in-depth study of colours and finishes, making this collection ideal for office lounge areas.

Uniting all the pieces is the quest for beauty. An element that becomes crucial in creating a space that inspires flair and originality and promotes well-being. The chairs thus become similar to works of art that arranged in the workplace - all the more so if domestic - do not simply make the environment more pleasant for themselves and their guests, but encourage a sort of emotional release, putting everyone in a position to work at their best in what was once the office but is now, to all intents and purposes, a creative meta-space.
