The porcelain stoneware surfaces of the “CarbonZero” project, produced by Florim, compensate the CO2 emissions generated by their production and life cycle and go beyond net zero impact.
In a time of climate crisis such as the one we live in, there are no definitive answers or one single path to take to make architecture less impactful. However, we do have a figure to start with: the construction industry accounts for 38% of C02 emissions produced globally. Reducing energy consumption and production waste, changing the perception of our relationship with the environment, making cities greener, looking at people's physical and mental wellbeing. These are just some of the themes investigated by contemporary designers and researchers who want to try to make architecture more compatible with the environment.
A positive contribution can also come from companies, if they recognise the urgency of the contemporary situation. This is the case, for example, with Florim's "CarbonZero" project: a series of porcelain stoneware surfaces that compensate the CO2 emissions generated by their production and life cycle and go beyond zero impact. The "CarbonZero" products actually create a positive impact on the environment, as the company offsets 110% of the CO2 emitted through the purchase of certified carbon credits from renewable energy projects in developing countries.
Florim's attention to sustainable architecture is 360°: the company calculates the environmental impact of its products throughout the entire life cycle and, in order to limit the emissions of its business, it reduces the use of natural resources and invests in making the production process 100% sustainable in terms of water, electricity and waste recovery. From 2023, all new Florim products are part of the "CarbonZero" project, as are the surfaces of the FLORIM stone, the brand dedicated to the world of kitchen and bathroom countertops, tables, worktops and in general the world of furniture that combines design and functionality in one large format (320x160 cm) and three different thicknesses (6-12-20 mm).
Compatta, the collection presented at the Salone del Mobile in Milan and designed by Federico Peri, combines the suggestion of raw earth, the expressive power of its author and the most advanced ceramic production techniques - perfectly embodying the experimental spirit of Florim's CEDIT brand. Among the new products presented at the end of September are: Eccentric Luxe, Essential Mood, Biotech, Coretech and Stone Life, which are the result of the most advanced technological know-how and constant research and innovation in terms of aesthetic yield and technical performance of the product.
