The 3D Wall Plaster collection of ceramic surfaces, produced by Atlas Concorde, is inspired by the craft techniques of working with plaster, which has been used since ancient times to sculpt statues, inlays and stuccoes and has become a fundamental element of art and architecture over the centuries.
Architecture and art have always contributed, together, to shaping and materialising the spaces of human life. The two spheres often have a common matrix and many great artists have been able to express their talents in both architectural and sculptural masterpieces.
This is also the case in modernity and not only in historical architecture. Masters such as Antoni Gaudi and Le Corbusier have highlighted and, if possible, exasperated the intersections between the two disciplines, bringing the marriage of art and architecture to such a level that today it is almost impossible to separate the artistic elements from the architectural elements.
Today, this attitude is revived and implemented by the Italian company Atlas Concorde with its new 3D Wall Plaster collection: three-dimensional ceramic surfaces inspired by the artisanal techniques of working with plaster, which has been used since ancient times to sculpt statues, inlays and stuccoes and has become a fundamental material for both art and architecture over the centuries. 3D Wall Plaster explores the artistic tradition of the master sculptors and proposes a contemporary reinterpretation with a handmade flavour. The collection transfers the artist's talent onto the ceramic surfaces, made according to the most up-to-date and innovative production techniques, using the artist's tools: chisel, brush, comb or spatula.
The result is five decorative patterns: Origami is a micro-mosaic pattern inspired by the ancient technique of folding paper, placed on fresh plaster then worked with a spatula; Bloom recalls the delicate mark traced by the bristles of the brush on the weave of the canvas; Jasmine is a botanic-inspired pattern that reproduces, with grooves and reliefs, an intertwining of jasmine leaves; Combed recalls the surface micro-roughening made with a comb during the process of scoring the block and, finally, Barcode is a geometric pattern with horizontal stripes of varying width as produced by a chisel.
3D Wall Plaster by Atlas Concorde explores the strength of a material capable of traversing the history of architecture and animating, even today, contemporary design environments.
