New spaces for welcoming, conviviality and inclusion. The Varignano district parish complex, designed by TAMassociati in Viareggio, is much more than a place of worship.

The church occupies a total area of 1,700 square meters, including large green areas and the churchyard with a new bell tower. The one designed by the Venetian studio is a sober building, with no pretentious monumentalism, paying great attention to symbolic details and the relationship between architecture and light. For this reason the collaboration with Performance iN Lighting was fundamental to define the atmosphere of the indoor and outdoor environments.

The high quality standards of Performance iN Lighting products meet all the lighting requirements of indoor and outdoor spaces, combining visual comfort and attention to energy sustainability, thanks to the use of luminaires with LED sources.

An "ocean of light" floods the main space of the assembly hall. Natural zenithal light from the large skylights is supplemented by NV414 LED and SL764EB LED linear luminaires embedded in the plasterboard decks of the roof. The careful selection of the luminaires, the colour tone of the light and the opal diffusers ensure correct visual comfort, so as not to strain the eyes of the faithful.

An impressive 13x4.5 m glass window provides a backdrop for the various church functions. This characteristic element dialogues by contrast with the neutral light tones at 4000K and the neutral colours of the furniture finishes, creating a focal point in the presbytery. From the outside, the glazing is animated by spotlights from the Guell series, chosen in different sizes.

For the aggregation and service spaces, different types of luminaires produced by Performance iN Lighting have been selected, following the specificity of each environment: the recessed DLSB220 LED and NV414 LED luminaires for general lighting, rectangular and round luminous panels to diffuse the lighting, while Mimik and Quasar luminaires light the walls.

Special attention has been given to the external lighting, in order to enhance every part of TAMassociati's project. The Mimik 30 luminaires enlighten the perimeter of the architecture on the ground floor, marking lights and shadows, while the projectors of the Guell series flood the upper part of the surfaces with light. The areas surrounding the church – the churchyard, the outdoor garden, and the green areas close to the building – are illuminated and secured with Spillo and Theos Mini pole luminaires.
