Designed by the Parisian studio Serero Architects, the new Bayeux mediatheque is a 2,500 sqm facility surrounded by greenery, connecting the historic city center with newly built residential neighborhoods. It is a place of study and exchange, promoting a cosmopolitan and interdisciplinary culture.

The multimedia library is conceived as an open, transparent and flexible modular structure composed of 5x5 m square units. Inside, the building has no compartments and, thanks to the furniture on wheels, can be easily reconfigured as required. 

The lighting, developed in collaboration with Performance iN Lighting, is fully integrated into the architecture of the media library, emphasising the spatial grid designed by the architects. Serero Architects chose the SL789 series ceiling luminaires and SL764 recessed luminaires, opting for products that provide carefully calibrated, glare-free lighting that avoids reading fatigue.

A total of 94 SL789AB LED ceiling luminaires have been used, with a total of approximately 440 metres of light lines. These fit perfectly into the space between the pillars, and have been manufactured in a special version with an aluminium body painted in RAL9002 to integrate with the ceiling. The internal perimeter of the media library is defined by continuous rows of SL764EB Frame LEDs which, with a total length of 43 metres, follow the large glass facades.

All the luminaires are controlled with DALI protocol, optimizing the lighting management both with preset scenarios and with the possibility of dimming the light for specific situations.

Light-Performer®, Performance iN Lighting's on-line software, has made it possible to create ad-hoc lighting solutions for the project in just a few simple steps. The program allows the customisation of complex lighting systems, making data, technical and economic variants available immediately.
