The linear and geometric design of Laufen taps and fittings

Three tap lines complete the bathroom collections designed for Laufen by Marcel Wanders, Konstantin Grcic and Ludovica and Roberto Palomba.

To rethink the bathroom world Laufen has called three exceptional studios: Marcel Wanders, Konstantin Grcic and Ludovica + Roberto Palomba. Each has created not only sanitary fittings and furnishings but also a line of taps, characterised by an elegant and geometric design that is a perfect match to any bathroom interior.

With The New Classic, Dutch designer Marcel Wanders continues his research on timeless elegance, contaminating a classic taste with a contemporary metropolitan lifestyle. The taps and fittings complete the collection with their simple and refined design, which dialogues with the soft and generous forms of SaphirKeramik ceramics. Wanders highlights all the precision and experience of the Swiss brand by designing sophisticated grooves at the base of the mixer and between the handle and the tap.

The mixers for washbasins and bidets feature a flat, slim spout and are equipped with a high-quality brass cartridge with a diameter of only 25 mm. The knobs of the 2-handle wall washbasin mixer are casted in one piece and mounted directly to the wall with a compensation system hidden behind the wall, eliminating unsightly rosettes.

To complete the Val collection, Konstantin Grcic has designed a series of taps with a sleek design, which are in tune with the fine lines of the sanitary fixtures, produced with the innovative SaphirKeramik technology. The taps are characterised by the conical bodies of the tap and spout, as well as the delicate appearance of the mixer lever, with its pleasantly voluminous underside.

"A clear sign of the traditional taps is their slightly curved spout", explains Grcic. "I wasn't interested in vintage design, but I think you can learn a lot from the past. The tap lever looks extremely delicate. But the underside has a more voluminous design that makes it easy to grip, like a door handle. In contrast to larger levers, which require less careful handling, Val's small lever encourages a more conscious and careful use of water."

With the same formal language Grcic has developed a taller tap for the washbasin bowls, a double outlet connection, a single control for the bidet and mixers for the bathtub and shower, in order to offer comfort and unity to the entire bathroom.

The combination of the slim cylinder of the taps and the square shape of the levers is what distinguishes the Kartell by Laufen collection designed by Ludovica + Roberto Palomba, which is conceived for lovers of ergonomics and minimalism.

This includes both washbasin and bidet mixers and a pedestal mixer for countertop washbasins and bathtubs, all equipped with operating levers. There is also a wall-mounted two-hole tap with a single mixer or a three-hole tap with a double knob. Worth mentioning is the two-hole solution with a gracefully curved outlet and an operating lever. The washbasin mixer taps are available in the classic chrome version, in brushed stainless steel or with a PVD coating in Titanium black matt, gold and rosegold.

The well-known Laufen Ecototal cartridge is integrated both into the bath mixer and the shower mixer. Ecototal is a special control cartridge which features both a volume and temperature break, gently guiding the user towards saving water and energy: when the manual lever is moved, and the user leaves the energy or water saving range, some resistance is felt.
