Tehila Guy: Anda

Tehila Guy’s final project in Bezalel Academy is an inflatable armchair inspired by repetitive pattern in terms of material, assembly methods, and aesthetics of the flat packed furniture.

Tehila Guy: Anda
With Anda Tehila Guy wanted to design a piece of flat-pack furniture that is out of the norm in a field that can seem fairly saturated.
Armchair was a challenging choice due to the fact it’s bareley flat-packed.

As a part of the design process it was crucial to change the material or technology that the upholstery is commonly made from, to decrease the amount of space taken up in packaging, while at the same time keeping it comfortable and sizable to sit in. That is why Guy started to research the world of inflatable furniture, which though had its glory days in the 1960s, is considered today to be a cheap relic of it’s time with limited design.

With the idea of make furniture that can be a part of people’s living room, Guy decided to combine inflatable parts with wooden base, to give it structural strength, and creating new aesthetics, while also making it easy to transport, assemble, and maintain, at a fair price.
The air in the inflatable sit and back presses on the wooden rods and connects all the parts together, while the wooden base keeps the inflatable parts from collapsing while sitting.
