The new Net Lounge by Nardi: an experience of total relaxation

Designed by Raffaello Galiotto, art director of Nardi, the chair adapts to various outdoor spaces: from the pool to the terrace. It will be the protagonist at the next Fuorisalone.

With a design inspired by the organic shape of a wave, the Net Lounge is the new outdoor chair designed by Raffaello Galiotto for Nardi. Created in fully recyclable fiberglass polypropylene resin, it has an enveloping shape and a soft profile that evokes the waves of the seaway. The design is minimal and the deep seat is intended for a better and ergonomic distribution of the body weight. The frame is light and breathable, characterized by a radial squared holed pattern on a matt surface.

“As a designer I, first of all, reflected on the concept of relax and this led me to believe that relaxation is first a physical condition, and only then mental,” explains Raffaello Galiotto, Art Director of Nardi. “Based on this principle, I started to delineate a project focusing on the posture of a body laying down. I wanted a seat the enveloped and supported all the parts of the body, including the head, because the feeling of a widespread contact with a surface and the gravitational suspension are key in this project that aims at total relaxation. The determining factors of this chair are: the deep seat, the extended and deeply reclined backrest, and the two arm rests. From an aesthetic point of view, I declined the concept of suspension through the holed grid of the frame to make it light, breathable, like a flying fabric. Then, I needed to work on the structure to make it thin yet sturdy, with sinuous, soft, and enveloping lines.”

Net Lounge is available in six colors and is designed to fit in various outdoor spaces − from the pool to the terrace – and it comes with clips to hold the towels in place. On the occasion of the Milan Fuorisalone, which will take place from April 17th to 23rd, the Net Longe will be the star of an installation held in the Torneria Tortona, in Via Tortona 30, an installation that plays with both indoor and outdoor spaces. “The installation aims at promoting this relax chair, Net Lounge, through an outdoor space inspired by lemon tree houses. It’s a quintessentially Italian environment enriched by a video projected on a Led Wall that conveys the sensation of suspension, lightness, and relaxation of the Net Lounge,” explains Galiotto. “The project expands in three settings: an outdoors pergola on Via Tortona, where the Net Lounge chairs are available to the public; an indoor space divided into two rooms, the reception hall and the pergola terrace, with seats and a video wall, and a third room with mirrors where the chair is placed on a Led Wall background with images of the moving sky where the visitors can lie down and be enveloped by the sensation of floating in the air, the sensation of sitting on a Net Lounge.
