On 15 September Gallerie d’Italia opens a solo show dedicated to one of the protagonists of the Milanese cultural scene: “Gabriella Benedini. Athanor”. Curated by Paolo Bolpagni and on until 6 November, the Milanese venue of Gallerie d’Italia invites visitors on a journey through the memories and the imagery of this artist from Cremona.
Natural elements, as distant as the stars, earth-bound materials, and the artist’s techniques are the key themes of this exhibition: 24 works with an alchemic quality, as suggested by the title referencing a Jorge Luis Borges novel, including the artist’s famous Harps, multi-material sculptures that as Gillo Dorfles wrote in 1992 “fill the space with their unique ‘spatial sonority’ inspiring a feeling of ‘arcane, imperceptible notes, unfathomable to human ear’”. A narrative journey across metaphorical works, shapes and colour of empiric spaces, captivating the viewers, allowing an intimate discovery of the production of one of the most famous artists of the Milanese art scene of the second half of the 20th century.
