In its simplest terms, architecture has always been an attempt to separate and protect people from weather. Jürgen Mayer H. and Neeraj Bhatia, at the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design in Toronto, have developed a research project that re-examines the relationship between climate and architecture. The results of their survey are set out in the volume –Arium. Weather + Architecture, published by Hatje Cantz. It seems that truly sustainable architecture and design is founded on the creation of new conceptual patterns, which recognise the primary role of physical and meteorological phenomena in architecture, economy, design, the media and every aspect of our society.
