Eight designers have collaborated with the Sicilian company DiSé for the production of a collection, called Domestic Monuments, celebrating the experiences and ceremonies of everyday life. Authors with a very distant approach – including Guillermo Santomà, OSΔOOS and Arquitectura G – reinterpret a precise moment of the day that is materialized in an iconic and sculptural object. “The etymology of the word ‘monument’ comes from the latin ‘monere’, which means to remind, to advise or to warn. Monuments, located in a private or public domain, create a memory of the present condition and put the future in perspective,” says the manufacturer.

There was no better place than Palazzo Biscari, a sumptuous private building in Catania, to host the photo shoot of the collection. The residence built in 1763 is in fact one of the most beautiful examples of Sicilian Baroque and itself can be considered a “domestic monument”. The Sicilian studio Moncada Rangels, which curated the project, used the occasion to carry on its work of research and enhancement of the East Sicilian territory, bringing together local crafts, knowledge and entrepreneurship with the inspiration of young international designers. The architects will continue their activity from July 22 to August 3, 2019, with the curatorship – together with Formafantasma – of a Summer School at the Made Program Academy, which will bring to Syracuse other excellences in the world of design for a series of workshops and conferences, including Beatriz Colomina, Jan Boelen, Fernando Laposse, MAIO...
