Aurora Station, the first luxury space hotel

A tiny sleeping pod for two people inside Orion Span’s orbiting space hotel will set you back a hefty $9.5 million for a 12-day stay. But will it get stellar reviews?

The Huston-based startup Orion Span is working on a modular orbiting station that will be used as a luxury hotel for rich space travelers. Aurora Station will host a maximum of four guests plus two crew members at a time, and it will follow a low orbit circling the planet every 90 minutes: that means the guests will be able to enjoy about 16 sunsets and sunrise for every day. Although the usual 12-day stay will cost the guests $9.5 million, the experience won’t be exactly luxurious, as the guest will have to share two tiny sleeping pods for two people. The station will also include a laboratory for research at zero gravity, a holodeck with embedded virtual reality, a high-speed Internet connection (for that much needed Instagram braggadocio from space) and a greenhouse area, to grow vegetables and sprouts.
