Saudi Arabia, which will host the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup, seems to have abandoned its plans to co-host the football World Cup in 2030 along with Greece and Egypt and is instead developing its proposal to welcome the great sporting event in autonomy in 2034.

Among the proposed locations, as reported by The Times, there would be various high-altitude locations collected in the mega-project Neom, in the northeast of the country, in the province of Tabuk, which also includes the Trojena ski resort – which has already obtained the rights to host the 2029 Winter Games.

In recent years, Saudi Arabia has invested a lot in sport and in particular football, buying some of the greatest players in the world. The country’s Public Investment Fund – which also owns much of Newcastle United, UK – is investing heavily in the development of Neom, which, along with the ski resort, will include the futuristic megalopolis “The Line”, a city that develops in length for 170 kilometers.
