New Ikea sensor measures air pollution in your home

The Swedish company announced Vindstyrka, a new connected device to keep track of PM 2.5 and activate other devices based on its measurements.

IKEA has launched Vindstyrka, a smart sensor that measures indoor air quality. The device can display particulate matter (PM2.5) levels, humidity, temperature, and TVOC. When connected to Ikea’s Dirigera hub for smart products, users can monitor indoor air quality in the IKEA Home smart app and trigger other devices to improve air quality. Vindstyrka can be used on its own or with the smart air purifier Starkvind to automatically adjust fan speeds and reduce PM2.5 levels when they exceed a certain level. Ikea’s new product aims to raise awareness about indoor air pollution and provide affordable solutions to the problem.

“Although we spend most of our time indoors, many of us tend to forget about indoor air pollution. We take for granted that the air in our homes is clean, but small everyday activities like cooking or cleaning can contribute to poor air quality just as much as industry or traffic,” says Henrik Telander, Product owner at IKEA of Sweden. ”With Vindstyrka, our ambition has been to create an affordable, high-performing air quality sensor to help our customers become more aware of the quality of the air they breathe in their homes”.

Vindstyrka will be available in all IKEA markets from April 2023.
