ODA’s two skyscrapers contained by a steel exoskeleton

Oda unveiled the design for the two-skyscraper Ombelle in Fort Lauderdale.

Architecture studio ODA, founded in 2007 in New York and known for highly conceptual design schemes, has unveiled its design for the two-skyscraper Ombelle in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which features a delicate steel exoskeleton and an outer shell of terraces and balconies varying in depth, length and density.

The Ombelle development should raise in Flagler Village, an area in the northeast of the city, once mostly industrial, but now home to art galleries and residential blocks.

The building will be composed by a wide base with two 43-storey funnel-shaped towers and will host 1100 residential units. The base, at street level, will be surrounded by columns, and at key points will be recessed from the street, creating covered plazas. The ground floor will house more than 10,000 square feet of commercial space and on its top it will have a terrace for the inhabitants.

If completed, with its total 48 storeys, it will be the tallest structure in Fort Lauderdale.
