“Gae Aulenti: A Creative Universe” opens at Vitra Schaudepot

A tribute exhibition on Gae Aulenti highlights her transversal talent, offering the chance to rediscover her less-known works.

Beyond Pipistrello, beyond the Musée d’Orsay. The retrospective that Vitra Schaudepot dedicates to the Italian architect and designer Gae Aulenti gives the international public a portrait of one of the most daring and versatile designers of the second half of the 20th century. The exhibition reconstructs the salient stages of her career, from her first collaborations with Poltronova, to the outdoor furniture of the Locus Solus series and the long series of lamps including Ruspa and Oracolo, up to the interior projects with which she achieved her first notoriety, such as Olivetti’s showrooms in Paris and Buenos Aires.

Alongside an in-depth examination of major projects, like the Musée d’Orsay and Palazzo Grassi, the exhibition also includes a digression on lesser-known works, such as the packaging solutions developed for Rochas in 1978 and the vases for Venini in 1995-1998. An opportunity to rediscover their multiform talent, capable of responding with formal solutions of calculated but visionary expressiveness, always set in a specific context.
