David Bowie’s New York apartment is back on the market and still carries his presence

Overlooking Central Park, the apartment is listed at $4.59 million. It’s not the first time it’s been put up for sale, but it still holds traces of its past.

In New York, among the real estate landmarks lining the perimeter of Central Park, the apartment that David Bowie shared with Iman between 1992 and 2002 has returned to the market. Located within Essex House, the historic Art Deco building overlooking Central Park South, the property is now listed at approximately 4.95 million dollars.

This is not a new listing, but rather a unit that has changed hands several times over the years while maintaining a strong association with Bowie and with a specific phase of his New York life. The apartment, roughly 175 square meters on the ninth floor, unfolds as a sequence of six rooms: a nearly nine-meter living room directly facing the park, three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and a central gallery. Other details—such as the dressing room designed for Iman or later modifications (including a panic room that has since been reconverted)—show how the apartment has been progressively normalized compared to its original configuration.

This is not the first time the residence has entered the global real estate circuit. As early as 2017, it was put on the market through Corcoran Group, with an asking price exceeding $6 million.

Today, the new valuation—lower than the previous one—signals not so much a loss of value as a different market condition. And while the price may change, what remains constant is the transformation of dwelling into narrative: the home as a secular relic, where the artist’s symbolic capital continues to generate desire.
