The truth about Tesla’s levitating shoes video taking over Instagram

The internet’s fascination with futuristic technologies often goes beyond the limits of science and engineering. This time, it was Tesla’s and Tata’s levitating shoes that went viral — but the video was created with AI.

Three weeks ago they were the Aerofoot presented at a fictitious Gitex 2029, then they became Tesla Glide Shoes and Tata Float.

Over the past week, two nearly identical clips have spread across social media: a model floating 50 cm above the ground, gliding from one side of a stage to the other during what appears to be a tech event (the caption claims it’s the Indian International Consumer Expo (IICE) 2025). She wears glowing, “futuristic” magnetically-powered shoes—so advanced they supposedly allow her to levitate in front of an astonished, ecstatic crowd.

Naturally, it’s just another fake video generated with AI. We don’t know for sure who created these clips—though they were circulated by the Instagram account Multiversmatrix, which admitted they were digitally fabricated visuals—but what is certain is that debunking them has kept zealous fact-checkers busy across multiple outlets, each summarizing their detailed breakdown of the hoax.

But while some shared the clip with a sense of irony, others began placing “pre-orders” and setting up fake websites using the Tesla logo, promising a “limited early release” with shipping within 24 hours. The result is a wave of scam warnings and articles urging people not to empty their credit cards for a pair of floating shoes that will likely reappear next month in a new disguise—tied to some grand-sounding yet nonexistent sci-fi convention—much to the dismay of the brands themselves, the only ones entirely unaware of their supposed “innovation”.
