The Colosseum of Rome (Amphitheatrum Flavium, the construction begun by Vespasian in 70 AD), the monument par excellence of the eternal city, one of the seven wonders of the modern world, can be seen with different eyes. Today's eyes will be able to enjoy an unprecedented architecture: the largest amphitheater in the world, capable of holding an estimated number of 50,000 to 87,000 spectators, will be equipped with a central arena in wood, retractable and openable in different configurations manageable remotely, opening new points of view and new possibilities of use for the structure protagonist of the games of antiquity.

The intervention wanted by the Superintendence of the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum and the Italian Minister Dario Franceschini, sees the pool Milan engineering in charge of the project, with Labics and architect Fabio Fumagalli responsible for the architectural part; Consilium will take care of the mechanical design and Croma for the restoration; completion is scheduled for 2023. "The project stems from a need to protect and preserve the monument, while allowing a return to the original use of the cavea. The new arena floor, conceived as a highly technological device, is in fact in total conceptual and material continuity with the original floor, which was a real scenic machine, light and performative," explains Labics, one of the players involved in the project, an architectural firm based in Rome, led by Maria Claudia Clemente and Francesco Isidori, already the protagonist of many important commissions at an international level.
