Presented at the end of November in Bangkok, Space Scholarship is a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative promoted by one of Thailand’s leading property developers, AP Public Company Limited, which instructed Fabrica, Benetton’s communication research centre based in Treviso, Italy, to conceive the interior design of some condo units aimed at students in the Thai capital.

As the name suggests, Space Scholarship is a scholarship given to seven students with financial difficulties in the form of a new co-living space where they can experience the benefits of communal living. Bringing together young researchers from around the world since over two decades, the theme of communal creative spaces where young catalysts can work independently while feeling inspired by their environment is at the core of Fabrica’s commitment. Fabrica conceived the design and visual identity of Space Scholarship in a way that enables interaction while at the same time ensuring elevate standards of quality, service and safety, and maintaining a sense of intimacy and ‘home’.

Fabrica needed to accomodate a seven-member group spanning a variety of backgrounds, religions and cultures, and decided to take a novel approach inspired by the co-life philosophy, designing the co-living space to reflect the “social overlapping” of its inhabitants through a variety of scales, colors, shapes and materials. Characterized by an efficient use of space, smart storage and practical furniture, the units are multifunctional: thanks to movable and adaptable elements they cay be open, when the students want to eat together, or closed, to create privacy when they want to study.
