Gufram on the rocks

The domestic landscape of the celebrated Italian brand revisits its reputation for saying no to fads/trends and presents two new pieces at the Galleria Sozzani. #MDW2016

The exhibition narrates 50 years in the life of Gufram via archetypal designs that have recently been reviving the legend of the brand and its maverick visions.

The exhibition narrates 50 years in the life of Gufram via archetypal designs that have recently been reviving the legend of the brand and its maverick visions. Some of the most distinctive icons in Gufram’s history fill the gallery space with a special exhibition design: from Studio 65’s Bocca sofa to Guido Drocco and Franco Mello’s Cactus, Pratone by Giorgio Ceretti, Pietro Derossi and Riccardo Rosso, Piero Gilardi’s Sasso and Sedilsasso, Globe by the Studio Job, Magnolia by Marcel Wanders and so on to Emanuele Magini’s Blow and Ross Lovegrove’s Softcrete – and these are only the most recent ones!

Two new designs are also being presented in the gallery during the exhibition. Alessandro Mendini’s Poltrona is a totemic and symbolic seat, a domestic throne that counters the lightness of polyurethane with a faux marble finish. Produced in a single specimen in the early 1980s, it is now being marketed in a limited edition in “real-faux” Carrara marble.

The artist Kris Ruhs also previews a soft sculpture in “real-faux” rusted iron, based on his modular sculptures, here in a single block and playing the faux/real game that distinguishes Gufram designs.
