Alongside the new products for Design Week 2015 aimed at the contract market – see the chandelier version of Antoni Arola’s Cirio lamp and the Arne lamp in injected aluminium –Santa & Cole of Barcelona is also showing re-editions of two elegant 1950s’ and 1960s’ designs at Euroluce.

The first re-edition is the Maija lamp, considered an iconic piece of Finnish design and created in 1955 by Ilmari Tapiovaara, a pioneer of industrial design and pupil of Aalto and Le Corbusier. Condensing function and intimacy, the opaque body is composed of a series of overlapping horizontal plates that filter the light provided by the source, hidden inside. The second major re-edition, in versions with steel or leather handles, expand and complete the Cesta family of lamps designed by Miguel Milá in 1962. The original version of this fascinating portable “lantern” has a cherry-wood structure supporting a globe of light.
