Handmade in Germany

At the Direktorenhaus, a new exhibition showcases the latest products by thirty German master craftsmen, from furniture and interiors to music instruments and tableware.

A new exhibition at Berlin's Direktorenhaus showcases the latest products from 30 German master craftsmen, manufacturers and experimental designers. Titled Handmade in Germany, the exhibition is a condensed collection of furniture, interiors, music instruments, tableware, and other products that showcases and explores the country's design aesthetic.

Representing highly specialized craftsmen alongside manufactories that have gradually grown and gained visibility, all represented craftsmen have in common is dedication to quality and attention to detail, which give their products a superior quality.

Curators Pascal Johanssen and Katja Kleiss seek to examine this distinctive talent of designers and manufactories, combining the rational and traditional with the cutting-edge in an effortless, playful way.

The exhibition features the work of Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau (Interior Architecture), Mayer'sche Hofkunstanstalt (artistic mosaic & stained glass), Montblanc (Writing Instruments), Fürstenberg (Porcelain), Nymphenburg (Porcelain), Frank Leder (Fashion), ClassiCon (Furniture), Tim Brauns - e27 (Product Design), Pelikan (Writing Instruments), Olaf Hajek (Illustration), Atelier Berthold Hoffmann (Cast Iron), Fiona Bennett (Hatter), Holon ID (Product Design), Brunner (Fireplaces), Andreas Maier (Folding screen painting), Schramm Werkstätten (Beds), Yasmine Benhadj-Djilali (Furniture), Valentin Loellmann (Furniture), Sarah Böttger (Product Design), Gmund (Paper), Dibbern (Porcelain), Hirschmann (Stringed Instruments), Reuber Henning (Rugs), Arne Petersen (Ceramics), Mühle (Shaving Culture), Tiziana Jill Beck (Illustration), Columbus (Globes), and Peter Schäfer (Curtain Coaster).
