Japanese design studio Nendo has recently completed a Tree House Bird Apartment at the Momofoku Ando Centre, in Komoro, Nagano, Japan.

The centre, which encourages access to nature and a series of activities outdoors, is located in a forest in the mountainous region of Nagano. Nendo designed a small one-person "apartment" — shaped like a giant birdhouse — in a tree-top, which can be shared with up to 78 birds.

On one side, a ladder allows access by one person at a time. On the opposite side of the tree house, 78 small entrances allow access to an equal number of small birdhouses. The human occupant of the apartment can peek into the birdhouses, observing a series of local birds, while peacefully coexisting with them.
