Inside the Surface: FMG’s Vision of Porcelain Stoneware
Innovating with materials for interiors and architecture is still possible: Full Body³ is FMG’s latest creation, reimagining full-body porcelain stoneware.
The first issue has appeared of a new six-monthly magazine architecture with an evocative name and a programmatic subtitle: Candide. Journal for Architectural Knowledge.
Conceived and edited by Axel Sowa and Susanne Schindler, the journal has emerged from the Department of Architecture Theory at the University of Aachen: a six-monthly academic publication articulated in five sections – Essay, Encounters, Fiction, Project, Analysis – each of which contains a single contribution and is identified with an internal cardboard cover.
The refined graphic design corresponds to equally sophisticated contents, aimed at the research of architectural knowledge. In the editorial, the curators themselves ask the question: “How is knowledge generated, increased, stored and propagated in architecture? How does action derive from this knowledge? […] Candide offers space for descriptions, declarations, theories and debates”. In pursuit of knowledge, like Voltaire’s Candide, in this case of the architectural kind.

È uscito il primo numero di una nuova rivista semestrale di architettura dal titolo evocativo e dal sottotitolo programmatico: Candide. Journal for Architectural Knowledge.
Concepita e diretta da Axel Sowa e Susanne Schindler, la pubblicazione è nata nell’ambito del dipartimento di Teoria dell’architettura dell’Università di Aachen: un semestrale di impronta accademica, articolato in cinque rubriche – Saggio, Incontri, Fiction, Progetto, Analisi – ciascuna delle quali ospita un solo contributo ed è individuabile grazie a una copertina interna in cartoncino.
La grafica raffinata corrisponde a un progetto altamente curato dei contenuti, indirizzati alla ricerca della conoscenza architettonica. Riflettono nell’editoriale gli stessi curatori: “Come viene generato, accresciuto, accumulato e trasmesso il sapere nel campo dell’architettura? Quale azione ne deriva? […] Candide offre spazio a descrizioni, dichiarazioni, teorie e dibattiti”. Il Candide voltairiano si mette dunque questa volta sulle tracce del sapere architettonico.
