An old 18th century industrial structure in the center of Kiev adapts to the evolution of the urban fabric and needs by transforming itself into a Japanese bar and restaurant. Originally a laboratory for soap production, the space – now renamed Virgin Izakaya Bar – is enhanced by the project of Yodezeen studio through the restoration of the original structure, cleaned from the superfetation of the various renovations carried out over the years, and now dominated by the scenic presence of its large brick vaults.
An old Kiev factory converts to a Japanese restaurant
Taking advantage of the magnificence of the imposing brick vaults, Yodezeen's project enhances the beauty of natural materials and makes the bathroom the real surprise effect of the entire space.

The interiors highlight the association with iron typical of the industrial language, alongside the use of natural materials, such as the wooden top of tables and grates, together with stone and leather and fabric for the seats. Detaching from the room's newfound sense of cleanliness is the area dedicated to the toilets, where the use of red metal mesh, used as a second skin on the walls and ceiling, restores an unexpected retro-futuristic flavor to this more intimate space.
